Scholarships

Helping our community grow and prosper means encouraging young people and adults to explore learning and increase their career potential. Through scholarships, our donors help students attend technical colleges and universities throughout Wisconsin and the nation.
 
 
If you’re a future or continuing college student, please contact your high school guidance counselor for application information and deadlines.
 
The purpose of this scholarship is to enable females to pursuer their educational goals.  Recipients must be incarcerated at Southern Oaks Girls School at the time of application. 
 
 
 
This scholarship fund was established in 1996 through a grant made possible by Bud & Mary Androff. Bud was a well known and respected physical education teacher and coach at Starbuck Middle School in Racine. Mary spent her professional career as a teacher & guidance counselor at the high school in Union Grove.  This scholarship is intended to be used to help finance the cost of the college education for students currently graduating from a high school in Racine or Union Grove who intend to study in the areas of general education, physical education, sports, (teaching K-12, teaching physical education, sports medicine, recreation, sports management, etc.) and/or human relations (ex: counseling, psychology, social work, anthropology etc) candidates must rank in the upper half of their graduating class.
 
 
 
This scholarship was established in 1992 by SC Johnson Wax as a tribute to Richard Carpenter upon his retirement as President and Chief Executive Officer of the company. The principal object of the Fund is to provide access to private secondary education for economically disadvantaged students within the city. A secondary objective is to provide financial support to private high schools in Racine.
 
 

This scholarship was established in 1985 by Mr. and Mrs. Donald George in memory of their deceased son, Tom. The scholarship is awarded to a senior graduating from Horlick High School with the highest scholastic achievement in his or her class not otherwise receiving a scholarship. The scholastic record is to be over the period of the last 3 years prior to graduation. The student must attend U.W. Madison in the fall after graduation.
 
  

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide funds to be used toward the payment of tuition for students attending the University of Wisconsin-Parkside full-time who are majoring in hard, traditional sciences.
 
 
 
 
This scholarship was developed in 1997 by James Guth, Robert Guth and Jerry Guth in honor of their father, Karle P. Guth.  This fund is for Waterford Union High School seniors who plan on attending U.W. Madison. The student must have a 3.5 grade point average or better and will be studying agri-business, secondary education, history or political science.
 
 
 
This scholarship was developed in 2009 by Robert and Victoria Hallam in memory of their parents and their uncle, William E. Hallam. This fund is for Washington Park High School seniors who have strong artistic talents in the Visual Arts and plan on attending a university, technical school or art school with the intent of pursuing a career in the field of Visual Arts.
 
 
 
This scholarship was developed in 2006 in memory of Gilma Dukleth by her family. This fund is for graduating seniors of Waterford Union High School who plan on attending a four year college or university. The student must be in the top 50% of their class.
 
 
 
This fund was established in 1995 by Leo Kerschitz and is for Union Grove Union High School graduates only. Leo was better known by the students as Mr. “K” served as the Golf Coach at Union Grove Union High School for 41 years. During those years he coached boys and girls as well as being a Math and Business teacher. The criteria for this scholarship states that the applicants must have participated in the high school golf program for a minimum of two years.  The student must be attending an institution which offers an acceptable degree program. Previous scholarship winners may reapply each year until the degree program is completed.
 
  
 
This fund was established in 1983, by former Racine residents, Florence E. Lockwood and her son, James E. Lockwood Jr.  It was established to provide scholarships to graduating seniors of Washington Park High School which is James Lockwood Jr.’s alma mater.
 
 
 
Developed by Shirley Nelson in 1997 to offer assistance to a graduating senior who shows steady, constant improvement over the course of his/her high school career with a “C” or better grade point average and has been involved in extra-curricular activities including school/community activities and work experience. This scholarship rotates annually between four high schools: Horlick, Case, Walden III, and Park.
 
 
 
This fund was established in 1997 upon the retirement of Allen G. Onnink who spent his career as a teacher/principal for 37 years in the Racine Unified School District. This scholarship is handled by the Racine PTA Council and generally two separate scholarships are awarded annually.
 
 
 
The Park High School Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund within the Racine Community Foundation was established in 1986.  It annually awards scholarships to graduating seniors of Park High who have attained high academic achievement; constructive extra curricular activities; general good character and have both poise and conduct.  This scholarship is supported annually by alumni of Park High School.
 
 
 
Developed in 1990 by Helen Patton, a former Director of Art for the Racine Unified School District, this scholarship is designed to assist full-time art faculty to continue their education and renewal through study, travel and contacts with professionals outside the immediate environment.
 
 
 
In 2008 the Perkins Family Scholarship Fund was established. It is designed to assist seniors who pursue a post-secondary education. This one-time scholarship is open to students who meet the following criteria:
  • Be in good academic standing and enrolled at a Racine high school.
  • Have an unweighted grade point average between 2.50 and 3.25.
  • Show evidence of being involved and motivated in their studies.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and a strong work ethic.
  • Have excellent school attendance.
  • Intend on attending an accredited four-year college or university or a two-year accredited technical school.
 
 
 
In 2008 the Grace K. Plude Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Grace Plude. This scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled at Gateway Technical College in the Associate Degree Nursing Program with credits equal to or greater than 32.
 
 
 
The Racine Christopher Columbus Quincentenary Commission established this scholarship in 1994. Racine Mayor Owen Davies established this Commission in 1990. Its two primary goals were to commemorate, in 1992, the 500th anniversary of Columbus’ voyage to the New World, and to establish a perpetual scholarship fund from which annual scholarships of $1,000 would be awarded to students of Racine County high schools planning on furthering their education.  This scholarship is intended to provide a $1,000 college scholarship to a senior graduate of a Racine County High School for use in pursuit of undergraduate education in generally accredited nonprofit colleges or universities, including community colleges. Specifically, this award is to go to a student showing outstanding academic scholarship in history. This scholarship rotates annually between eleven Racine County High Schools, they are: Burlington High School, Union Grove High School, Lutheran High School, Horlick High School, J.I. Case High School, St. Catherine’s High School, Washington Park High School, Union Grove Christian School, Walden III High School, Prairie School and Catholic Central High School. The criteria for this fund state that the number of scholarship given each year will not exceed 4 scholarships.
 
 
 
In 1997, at a combined class reunion of dedicated students from classes 1940 and 1950's, decided to start a memorial scholarship fund for their beloved teacher and principals A.F. Ruzika and William Homburg. This scholarship is for Union Grove Union High School graduating seniors only.
 
 
 
The School Bell Fund was developed in 1995 to aid Teachers in the classroom. These scholarships cover a variety of projects in the Racine Unified School System.  Information regarding this scholarship can be obtained from Racine Unified’s Central Office.  
 
 
 
This scholarship was established in 2003 by Alice Jane Sokol. Named after the Donor, this scholarship is for one or more students attending the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater who are in the School of Education but it is not to be awarded to a first or second year student (because they frequently change their mind about their major). Instead the scholarship is to be awarded to a third or fourth year student, preferably for a student with financial need. This scholarship is to be awarded to one or more graduates of Racine high schools (public or private).
 
 
Named after the Donor’s mother, this scholarship was established in 2003.  This scholarship is for one or more students attending the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee who are in the School of Education but it is not to be awarded to a first or second year student (because they frequently change their mind about their major). Instead the scholarship is to be awarded to third or fourth year student(s), preferably students with financial need. This scholarship is to be awarded to one or more graduates of Racine high schools (public or private).
 
 
 
This scholarship was established in 2003 in honor of the Donor’s father, who was a graduate in the first class of what was previously known as Boys Tech High School in Milwaukee and is now known as the Lynde & Harry Bradley Technology and Trade School. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at Bradley Tech who will be attending an accredited technical or trade school (as distinguished from a college or university).
 
 
 
This scholarship was established in 2007 to provide scholarships toward the payment of tuition for attendance at a four year college or university to seniors graduating from Racine Unified School District high schools who show a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in teaching.
 
 
 
This scholarship was established in 2004 by the Greater Union Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. This scholarship provides scholarships to graduating seniors from Union Grove Union High School and/or Union Grove Christian School who will be attending schools of higher education.
 
 
 
This scholarship was developed by the Union Grove Education Association in 1997.  It was established to provide scholarships to graduating seniors of Union Grove Union High School in pursuit of undergraduate education in general accredited nonprofit colleges or universities including community colleges.
